Feel free to give access to your friends but please DON'T publish the password or link in forums or social media pages. The issues that I discuss here are sometimes private, usually contentious (it wouldn't be interesting otherwise) and I don't want to receive flak for my efforts from total strangers. May I suggest that you download this page (save it to your computer) so you don't have to keep using the password in order to refer to it. You might find it more convenient to save it as a PDF file. (If you don't know how to perform this very basic function, please take computer lessons, do a search or ask a friend!) In addition, as some YouTube videos and even web pages are being deleted, I suggest that you save anything that interests you, to your computer. Note: this page is designed to be read on a computer or large tablet. Although a mobile phone is handy in an emergency, I'm not going to dumb-down my work just so that it's more readable on a phone. IMPORTANT: some links go to web pages that have adverts or pop-ups, some of which even obscure the article. You can remove the clutter by using Firefox web browser and clicking on the "open book" icon in the address bar. Note: some links go to lengthy YouTube videos. You can reduce the time it takes to view/listen to these by clicking on the "gear wheel" icon and selecting the speed as 1.25 or 1.5. Note: I post only the most interesting links so these represent less than half of my monthly total reading/viewing activities. Many of the links lead to other interesting stories and I don't always list them separately. I retire (from SatCure only) at the end of MARCH 2017. I don't yet know what my business partner plans to do with the company but I'm fairly sure that she doesn't want the web site. I anticipate that she'll continue to trade on eBay but there will probably be a break in trading because she's expecting a baby. In the meantime, I will probably write a few more blogs like this, if enough people are still reading it. I will also continue with my copy-editing work and I might write another eBook or two. | A patch of plaster fell off our bathroom ceiling for the third time. I decided not to call the workers back as they obviously can't make a good job of it. |

| Instead, I have removed all the loose plaster and painted a primer coat onto the plaster board. When I get a round tuit, I'll finish off with a coat of waterproof paint and leave it like that. |

| It rained a lot in January and early February. Our Internet connection kept disappearing and our phone line was disconnected several times for half a day or more. Phone company workers were spotted in the village square, fiddling inside the main connection box. Phone company merely told us that there are "major problems". Typically, fallen branches have not been cleared away. It's always "someone else's job". I'm looking forward to fibre-optic cable but that might be wishful thinking! |

| It has been a tad chilly, here. Typically 16°C indoors and 10°C outdoors during the daytime. Our oil-fired central heating struggled to get the indoor temperature up to 18°C and was using 150 litres of diesel per week, at a cost of over 1 Euro per litre! Thankfully, the weather is beginning to grow warmer and today, for the first time this year, it reached 20°C outside in the shade. |

Neighbours Wanting FreebiesA neighbour phoned me to ask whether I would "take a look" at his satellite TV system because it was "receiving no programmes since the storm". I suspected dish misalignment, which I'm not prepared to deal with, so I suggested a local installer. As it turned out, he needed a new dish, LNB and receiver! Another neighbour phoned me to ask whether I would "take a look" at his satellite TV system because "some channels are missing." I had previously repaired the PSU in his receiver. I don't have a professional dish alignment meter so I told him, politely, that I only do repairs on selected receivers. I don't have ladders or a roof-rack and I don't do callouts. (I didn't add that I'm not prepared to sit for hours with the User Manual and remote control, reprogramming a receiver.) I pacified him by providing the name of a local guy who is happy to do all that stuff - for payment. Yet another neighbour phoned me for advice. "My LNB cap has fallen off. I've fitted a piece of plastic over the horn but now a couple of channels are breaking up."
