Friday, June 30, 2023 The last day of June and it's already 26°C at 8.30 am. I hear screaming cicadas in the distance. Iliana left for Rethymno at 10.15 am. I've given her a shopping list of things that we are short of as she plans to stop at Lidl supermarket on her way home.
	At 11.20 I set off for the Café in Litsarda. There was traffic chaos as workmen had dug a hole at the junction where the café is located. Billy arrived and I ordered wine for him; Fredo Cappuccino and sausages for me.
	My sausages appeared at 12.11 pm. A local lady arrived and asked me if I knew anything about the shooting in nearby Ksirosterni. Apparently someone had killed someone else! At 12.40 Brian arrived and I explained to him that we were coming early now that the weather is hot. At 12.45 Billy left and Chris & his wife arrived.
	I stayed until 1 pm then paid and set off for Georgioupoli. I had planned to ride to the ATM in Vamos but Brian told me that he'd seen a man trying to extract his card from the machine with a pair of pliers, so it might not be working! The ATM in Georgioupoli handed out cash so I haven't been Faraged yet. I bought bananas from the grocer and rode home to eat yoghurt with banana, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon and fenbendazole.
	Saturday, July 1, 2023 I awoke early and took a short walk as the sun rose in a murky sky. I put the white clothes into the washing machine and hung them out when the cycle finished. Iliana put dark clothes in the wash and brought the whites indoors.
	I rode to the Café to join Billy and D.D. and a couple of mating "shield bugs".
	At 1 pm I returned to my village and Billy followed. We had drinks at the Café in the square. When the pie lady arrived, we paid and collected our orders and then went home.
I spent the afternoon watching videos and researching. At 5 pm, Iliana returned from the neighbours' house and cooked dinner while I washed the dishes.
	Sunday, July 2, 2023 Iliana was up early and took a walk at sunrise. At 9.40 we drove to Almyrida for breakfast at "Francoise" Café. A table had been reserved for us! The sea was extremely calm but the horizon was hidden in mist. Iliana blamed smoke from Canada but I think that's unlikely.
	Breakfast arrived and the Café started to fill with tourists of all nationalities. We counted a plane landing about every ten minutes from Helsinki, Warsaw, Denmark and other places (according to "FlightRadar24" app.)
	The mist cleared and tourists were renting boards, canoes and paddle boats.
	In the afternoon, I headed for Georgioupoli on the mobike while Iliana cleaned the house in preparation for the "knit & natter" group, which will meet here tomorrow. I had an ice cream at the little ice cream parlour adjacent to the petrol station and the National Road. I chatted to the owner (who doesn't speak English). Then I rode to the "Sentouki" Café near to the river bridge and had a pot of tea.
I set off for home at 2.20 pm and spent the afternoon watching YouTube videos. Iliana returned from the neighbours and I ate yoghurt & banana, followed by a quarter of a pork pie. The weather has been uncomfortably hot at about 33°C but just about bearable by the sea.
	Monday, July 3, 2023 My back was aching so I set off for a walk at 8.30 am. The air was already hot and the sky was hazy over the Mediterranean.
	Idyllic Crete. At least the communal rubbish bins are no longer overflowing!
	The local residents were trimming the dry weeds.
	Our neighbour, Paul, and his newly-acquired boxer dog, that he's named "Tia". "That's Tia Maria!" his wife shouted from indoors.
	Iliana & I drove to Vrises for drinks at "La Luna" Café with Geoff & Derrick. We watched the usual traffic chaos as people parked inconsiderately, forcing lorries to squeeze through.
	The tourist train also passed by. In the afternoon, Iliana was hosting the "knit & natter" group at our house. However, all but one person called with an excuse. I rode to town to get cash from the ATM.
Tuesday, July 4, 2023 Iliana has a tummy bug so she's staying at home. I took an early walk round the village. Chris phoned at 11 am to ask if I planned to go to the café. I told him yes, in half and hour and he met me there. Chris said that for the third time he'd had "a funny turn" at a taverna. A trip to the hospital showed that his blood pressure was seriously low but they still don't know why.
	I knew that it was too hot for Billy to come out so we weren't expecting to see him. At the Café we spotted a lady filming Petroula's garden. Petroula was intrigued and walked up the road to ask what she was doing. Petroula returned with the information "she's English and she's making a video".
	The mysterious woman filmed Petroula's husband, Michaelis, driving his tractor. Then she carried her tripod and camera to the Café corner and stood in the middle of the road, filming a road sign and holding up the traffic. I asked her who she was. "I'm making video clips for 'Place in the Sun'", she told me, with a Scottish accent.
	Kostas the sheep farmer, who was sitting with us, told me that Billy's son's water meter was leaking but that he'd turned the water off. I phoned Billy to let him know. Billy said that he'd personally turned the water tap off weeks ago after his son returned to England so it's a mystery. I rode there to take a look and it certainly had been leaking. I emailed Billy's son to let him know. He might have an expensive water bill!
Back home, I took a nap and then joined my UK engineer friends in a Skype call. Iliana has had a tummy upset again so she wasn't eating. I heated up some chilli-con-carne for my dinner. __ Wednesday, July 5, 2023 I arose just before 8 am and watched videos for an hour. I ate tinned sardines with (rinsed) baked beans, for breakfast. Our neighbour, Dave, brought a package that he'd collected. It was a date stamping machine that I'd ordered from the mainland a week ago. I walked to the supermarket and stamped every single envelope in the "NEW MAIL" and "OLD MAIL" baskets. From now on, we'll be able to tell exactly how old the envelopes are so I can discard the very old ones after 6 months. Iliana, meanwhile, has set off for Rethymno to visit our friend, Maria. It's another cloudless, hot day. It's already 30°C at 11 am.
	Chris phoned to say that he was at the Café with his wife so I rode there and spent an hour with them before riding to the ATM to collect more twenties before returning home. I was tempted to ride to Georgioupoli but it's too hot, so back to my air conditioned office!
3.30 pm Iliana returned home early: the tummy bug has struck again so it's back to the dry toast and water diet.
	Thursday, July 6, 2023 We arose before 8 am. Iliana was feeling better so we took a short walk while it was still not too hot. Three workmen were setting up a "presa" (cement pumping lorry) adjacent to the unfinished houses (they were unfinished fourteen years ago).
At 11 am I rode to Cliff's house to collect eggs and then to the supermarket for milk. At 11.30 I rode to the Café and sat with DD and Stelios-the-magician, who tried to amuse us with unintelligible jokes. At 12.30 I rode to Vamos to get more twenties from the ATM and then headed home. Iliana set off in the car to visit a friend and returned at 5 pm to cook dinner. __ Friday, July 7, 2023 Iliana took a walk while I was still in bed and then she watered the potted plants. Neighbour Dave came to scrounge some rawlplugs and offered to water our plants and cat while we are away. We are going to Cyprus for a few days so I won't be posting updates until our return.
	At 10 am we drove to Kalyves for the monthly expat meeting at "Apicorna" Café. Cycas or Sago Palm
	At 1 pm I rode to the Café O Petros and ordered a portion of local sausages (herbs, no breadcrumbs). There was nobody to talk to so I read news bulletins on my iPad Mini. Afterwards, I rode to Vamos to obtain more 20 Euro notes from the ATM for our holiday. At 3 pm, Iliana went for a swim in the neighbours' pool.
	At 6 pm we drove to Vamos for a farewell chicken dinner with Geoff & Derrick at "the chicken shack" (not its real name). G & D are moving back to England next week. After dinner, as darkness fell, we walked to "Kali Kardia" for coffee. The temperature was still 32°C at 9 pm. (The camera suggests daylight but it was dusk.)

At least for the present, it's no longer possible to read Twitter posts unless you are logged in to your Twitter account.

Twitter was being used by AI bots to digest millions of tweets to determine emerging narratives and to flag millions of "misinformation" tweets. They [whoever] would then use this info. to have tweets suppressed and to form counter narratives. The rate limits that Elon has implemented will hinder their ability to keep doing that as before and you should expect a lot of salty tears from the left.

Very strange: I was looking to see if Hills Components company was still in business. I tried to access www.hillscomponents.co.uk and got redirected to "Died Suddenly - The Movie"!

Thirdly, if it's popular, it's a prime target for hacking. How much do you value your personal information?
